As the rest of the country celebrated the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe, SGB headed to Grove Place to put on an afternoon concert for the residents. Unfortunately the weather prevented the original plans for an outdoor concert, so a slightly more intimate venue allowed the audience to be able to see and hear the band in all their glory.
The varied program including a selection of American Civil War tunes, some big band numbers including a saxophone spectacular – In the Mood, and modern classics had the audience singing along and dancing in the aisles.
Overall the concert was very well received with the organisers sending the following message
Grove Place is still buzzing from the fantastic concert yesterday. It really was brilliant and everyone commented ,what lovely people you all are and so talented ! I can’t thank you and your colleagues enough – as I said before VE Day is avery important day for our generation and you all made the celebration so special.
The audience further showed their appreciation with some very generous donations to the band and the band members very much appreciated the cream tea that was made available during the interval.
We look forward to returning at a future date.
