Christchurch Concert - Summer 2007
After the success of our first concert in Hythe, we were looking forward to the bandstand concert in Christchurch. After battling our way through New Forest traffic, the band set up on yet another rainy summers day. Thankful for the substantial roof, we pegged down the music and began the concert.
The concert programme had few changes from that played at Hythe, but there are some pieces that deserve a mention. 'Pavanne in Blue' set a calm and peaceful mood and included an impressive solo from Adam Branson. Similarly, there was some great playing by Kevin Page in 'Aladdin'. The most memorable piece, however, was 'Chicago'. In the second half the dark skies cleared to reveal a glimmer of sunshine. A large group of children gathered to listen, clap and dance along to the hits from the famous musical. Spurred on by cups of tea in the interval, the band entertained it's newest fans and the audience numbered over thirty at one stage!
The second half of the concert also saw the introduction of electrical power to the band stand, which enabled James Verduyn to play some impressive bass lines. The concert was once again extremely enjoyable: bring on the Southampton gig…
We were lucky to have a number of the bands' family members in the audience, who were extremely supportive as always with kind wishes and applause.
